History of the Adult Folklore Ensemble
The adult Dúbravček Folklore Ensemble was established in 2012 on the initiative of girls graduating from our children’s ensemble. Missing folklore after leaving the children's section, they returned and naturally sparked the creation of an adult ensemble.
The ensemble comprises dance, vocal, and musical sections that perform both together and independently. Together with our folk music band, the adult ensemble currently numbers around 40 active members. In our home village of Plevník-Drienové, we regularly perform at annual traditional events:
Christmas and Easter programs
Slavic Carnival celebrations (Fašiangy)
Maypole raising (Stavanie mája)
Mother’s Day and Senior Respect Month
Local anniversary celebrations and events hosted by local community organizations
International Performances & Festivals
The adult Dúbravček Folklore Ensemble has proudly represented Slovak heritage on international stages:
2016: Performances in Prague, Berlin, and Paris.
2018: Participation in a folklore festival in North Macedonia and the Slovak Culture Days in Rijeka, Croatia.
2023: Performance at a major international folklore festival in Herceg Novi, Montenegro, where we represented the Trenčín Region and the Slovak Republic.
In 2022, the adult ensemble celebrated its 10th anniversary with a special gala program titled “Podoby lásky” (Expressions of Love). Our rich repertoire features songs and dances from our home region as well as choreographies from various regions across Slovakia.
Our female singers competed in the popular national folklore TV show Zem spieva, successfully advancing to the televised broadcasts, a proud milestone for our ensemble.
In June 2017, the ensemble was featured on the national folklore show KAPURKA on STV2 (RTVS) and won 1st place in the nationwide audience vote, giving us wonderful encouragement for our ongoing work.
Since 2011, our ensemble and folk music band have performed traditional bridal unveiling ceremonies (čepčenie) at weddings. We have performed countless ceremonies over the years and are deeply grateful for the continuous interest.
The founding members remain an active part of the ensemble, primarily as singers, some still dancing. Many now have families of their own, and their children attend the preparatory group of our children’s ensemble!
One of our founding members who still actively dances is Radka Ďurkechová. Thanks to her dedication, the adult ensemble continues to move forward. She leads rehearsal trainings and has authored several dance choreographies, always collaborating closely with ensemble director Janka Muráňová and our folk music band.
